HP country general manager for imaging and printing group Yan Yoke Ping said both devices offer the newly formulated HP Officejet pigment inks that are similar to liquid laser toner, which are designed to deliver vivid colours and solid blacks.

“And when using HP paper featuring ColorLok technology, users are assured of getting water-resistant documents,” he said.

The 8500 prints, copies, scans and faxes in colour. It comes with wired and wireless networking capabilities and is bundled with Direct Digital Filing software to capture, manage and share documents, amongst other uses.

As for the 8000, it comes with Ethernet networking, duplex printing and an optional 250-sheet paper tray.

Both models print (in draft mode) at up to 35 pages per minute (ppm) in monotone and up to 34ppm in colour. As for printing resolution, both models offer up to 1,200 x 1,200dpi (black-and-white) and 4,800 x 1,200 optimised dpi (colour).

Yan also said that to help SMBs be more cost-effective, HP is working out the details of a rental programme for its Officejet models.

During the launch event in Kuala Lumpur, the company also unveiled two laser printers targeted at SMBs, an inkjet printer for the SOHO market, and two sheet-fed scanners for SMBs, as well as enterprise and government sector markets.

The 8000 series retails from RM699 but pricing for the 8500 printers will only be available next month.
