BN unfazed by rivals’ talk

PUTRAJAYA: The Opposition can make whatever claims it wanted — including calling Barisan Nasional’s decision not to contest in Penanti state seat as a cowardly act — but the coalition will stick to the collective decision made at its supreme council meeting on Monday.

“The bashing from the Opposition will come regardless of whether we contest the seat or not, ” said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had given strong reasons why the Barisan would not be contesting the seat, and all the component parties had agreed with the decision.

In KUALA LUMPUR, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abd Aziz said the Barisan would rather focus its energy on nation-building instead of wasting time to contest in a by-election created by the Opposition.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the Barisan was giving priority to the governance of the country, especially with the global economy getting worse.
